Skies is a fact-paced multiplayer arcade style air-combat game. Play either as a pilot or a gunner, fighting dogfights of WWI styled aircraft in the beautiful Pacific archipelago. The game has a strong player community and servers are being set up all the time.
The setting consists of mountainous islands, each with a base for one of the two teams. There's a lighthouse off the largest island which contains the objective of the capture-the-flag -like multiplayer game. The objective, a flaming ball, is attached to the tail of the pilot who successfully captures it and delivers it to the home base. On the way other team members should provide protection from attacking enemy planes, most effective is this duty are the gunners of their aircraft.
Playing as a gunner brings an entirely new aspect to air combat games. You are able to rotate your gun 360 degrees and freely tilt it up and down to better catch your enemy. The user interface for the gunner is a bit different: while the flying is mostly done by keyboard the gunner will rely on mouse, very much the same than in most FPS shooters. A smooth co-operation between an experienced pilot and his gunner is needed for the most effective and enjoyable gameplay.
Players can setup their own servers and declare them either public or private. The game supports massive air combats with dozens of participants although the resources of a single server are most often quite limited, due to the bandwidth and the effectiveness of the computer acting as a game server.
The game is developed together with the players. An active forums allows development team members to always stay tuned on wishes and suggestions of the player community.
